SUPPING up has given the Nat Lofthouse Memorial Fund a £10,000 boost.

Dunscar Bridge Brewery managing director Pat Kitchen presented a cheque for £3,347 to Bolton Wanderers club chaplain Phil Mason and club mascot Lofty at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival.

The latest cheque makes a total of £10,000 donated so far by Dunscar Bridge Brewery since the launch of the Nat Lofthouse Memorial Fund at the Bleachworks Bar earlier this year.

The brewery created two commemorative beers, Lofthouse and Lion of Vienna, with 25p from each pint donated to the fund, which will build a statue to the White legend at the Reebok Stadium .

Managing director of Dunscar Bridge Brewery, Pat Kitchen, said: “We were delighted to be involved in the Bolton Food Festival and our bottled beers as well as the steak and Dunscar ale pies proved highly popular.

“Once people tasted the beers they couldn’t get enough of them and we sold more than 300 packs as people bought them to drink and as Christmas presents.

“The whole weekend was a great success for us and many people commented on how good our beers and the pies were.”

Nat’s family have chosen the iconic image of him walking out of the tunnel at Burnden Park, holding the ball, to be transformed into the statue.

As well as the statue, there will be three iconic images of the Lion of Vienna displayed as large bronze reveals in a memorial garden at the Reebok Stadium.

The garden, which will be at the South West corner of the stadium, will include seating areas and give the opportunity for fans to have bricks placed in the walkway in memory of their loved ones.

The statue will be unveiled on August 27, 2013, which would have been Nat’s 88th birthday.
