A SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS world filled with good dreams, greedy giants and snozzcumbers is coming to Bolton next year.

The curtain may have only just gone up on the Octagon Theatre's current festive production of Alice in Wonderland but it has been revealed the 2015 production will be Roald Dahl’s The BFG.

The classic tale will be brought to life from Nov ember 13, 2015, to January 9, 2016.

Roddy Gauld, chief executive of the Octagon, said: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that The BFG is to be our next festive production.

"The Octagon has become known and celebrated for its inventive, creative and unique interpretations of beloved festive classics, and though the bar has been set high, we’re certain The BFG will enchant and delight our audiences.

"We are also excited to announce our guest director in the coming months, who will bring a fresh creative vision and process to our theatre.

"This is something we’re always eager to embrace, nurture and learn from in order to grow and provide our audiences with the best productions possible."

The story by children's favourite Dahl has captivated youngsters for generations.

Unable to fall asleep in her bedroom in the village orphanage, Sophie spies a huge and mysterious figure blowing something into bedroom windows down the street.

Before she has a chance to hide, the giant snatches up the little girl and whisks her away to his home in Giant Country.

But this giant is unlike the others Sophie comes across in this exhilarating tale — the BFG is funny, friendly and full of surprises and it’s not long before they embark upon all sorts of adventures, becoming best friends in the process.

Using David Wood’s adaptation of the classic children’s book, which incorporates puppetry to give the illusion of scale, the Octagon Theatre promises to delight and surprise audiences of all ages with an exciting set and a new director and cast, to be announced in the coming months.

The news comes as it was announced The BFG is returning to the big screen in a film directed by Steven Speilberg in 2015, set for release in 2016.

Tickets for The BFG are on sale now, while the theatre's current festive production of Alice in Wonderland runs until Saturday, January 10, 2015.
