BAFTA nominated make-up artist Kristyan Mallet gave students a behind the scenes glimpse of Hollywood.

He delivered a lecture at the University of Bolton and demonstrated the colouring and application techniques used in the latest blockbuster films.

Mr Mallett has worked on a host of movies including the Harry Potter series, Mission Impossible 5 and The Theory of Everything, for which he received a BAFTA nomination.

His make-up career began in the fashion industry, but an invitation to undertake a three-week course from world-renowned special effects make-up artist Nick Dudman led to a change of direction.

After showing potential he was invited to work as an apprentice on Harry Potter with Mr Dudman.

A strong work ethic and enthusiastic approach saw his career flourish, with him now heading up one of the leading make-up FX companies in the UK.

Richard McEvoy Crompton, the SFX, course leader, said the students had been amazed by Mr Mallet's work.

He said: "It’s great to have someone as talented as Kristyan come to the university to speak to our students.

"Kristyan can show the students what we are teaching is of the highest level and what they need to do to achieve such results.

"Kristyan is also a good employer, appointing 12 trainees a year to spend time learning about the industry.

"Relationships such as this encourage students and show them that they are able to achieve top results in the industry."

Three years ago he also set up PS Composites, supplying materials to the industry and also the university.
