THREE brave women let their hair down — only to have it all shaved off for charity.

Martine Longworth, aged 29, Vicki Birchall, aged 44, and Lauren Roberts, aged 30, have so far raised just below £5,000 for Derian House Children's Hospice in memory of six-year-old Jessica Green, who lost her battle against a brain tumour last year.

The Bay Mare pub in Astley Bridge hosted The Big Shave event last Sunday (August 30) where landlady Ms Birchall and her two female bar staff had their long locks shorn, which will be donated to the Little Princess Trust — a charity that makes wigs for young cancer patients.

They hope to raise more money with additional fundraisers throughout the rest of the year.

Mum-of-one Ms Birchall said: "We know Jessica's family and were looking for ways of raising money in her memory, and thought this would be something a bit different.

"It was quite nerve wracking — the pub was packed and it was a bit overwhelming when they started shaving.

"It's amazing how quickly you forget about having no hair. I keep wondering why people are looking at me. But not having to do anything in the morning is great."
