REMEMBER, remember, the fifth of November.
Every year on November 5th - the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot - Catholic explosive 'expert' Guy Fawkes is remembered and Britain celebrates the Houses of Parliament remaining intact.
Here we take a look at how the people of Bolton marked Bonfire Nights of yesteryear.
In 1975, children built this impressive, giant bonfire at the rear of Deane Church Lane.
It's Bonfire Night 1939 and fires were no doubt burning all over the area. On Shearer's Farm at Deane, Gordon Shearer is seen arranging the Guy's hat.
Five-year-old Alex Pickles (kneeling on the right) and his friend Max Flannigan (just above him) were no doubt sorry to see this impressive creation go up in smoke in November 1983, on a bonfire near Brook Hey Lane, Great Lever.
The Coronation bonfire at Smithills Croft Road in 1937.
Horwich civic bonfire on the RMI Cricket Ground in 1974.
