FIRE chiefs have thanked Bolton Mountain Rescue Team members for helping flood victims in Lancashire.
The team sent 20 volunteers and provided a boat to help those affected escape from the area.
Bolton was well represented in Cumbria and Lancaster, with boxer Amir Khan also travelling north to give practical and moral support to those affected by the devastation the flooding caused.
In addition, Rizwan Gharda, aged 25, from Great Lever, who had previously helped to hand out water to Bolton residents after supplies were cut off earlier this year, went to Cumbria to help.
In a letter to the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, Chris Kenny, chief fire officer at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "I am writing to offer my thanks for the support that Bolton Mountain Rescue Team gave to Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service during the recent flooding in Lancashire.
"Following mobilisation, your resources arrived promptly into Lancaster with a very impressive number of volunteers and resources.
"The team quickly assimilated to the operational response team and became involved in the safe evacuation of residents and helping to transfer patients and critical personnel from one side of the bridge to the other to help them access the hospital.
"As you know, thankfully, these emergencies are rare but, when they do occur, it is always heartening to see colleagues from the voluntary sector working alongside fire and rescue staff with the single aim of helping people in critical need of help.
"I would be grateful if you could pass on my gratitude to all the personnel who were involved.
"To be able to mobilise 20 volunteers in the space of time that you managed was a real credit to you."
Homes across Cumbria and Lancashire were badly affected by the torrential rain in the two counties last weekend.
