Here's our guide to what you can do in and around Bolton this weekend.
- England is celebrating the 400th birthday of its most famous bard on Saturday. In Bolton families interested in getting involved in all things William Shakespeare is invited along to Bolton Central Library in Le Mans Cres where there will be fun crafts and storytelling from 11am to 4pm.
The library is also encouraging fans of the playwright to share selfies with some of his most famous lines on social media using the hashtag #Shakespeare16.
- St George’s Day events will also be kicking off on Saturday and if you head down to Bolton Town Hall steps there’s a chance of picking up a rose from two knights (pictured below)!
From 10am there will be a family fun day at Westhoughton Market which will include a performance by Wingates Brass Band as well as a fun fair, face painting and other entertainment.
2. On Sunday, Bolton Parish Church will be hosting the annual St George’s Day Parade from 3pm which is supported by local scout groups.
4. Nightlife will be proving just as busy with a definite leaning towards rock this weekend.
The Railway Venue, Bromley Cross, will be celebrating Women in Rock with the UK’s only live show dedicated to the powerful female singers on Saturday. With a live band, it will feature cover performances of stars including Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith (pictured below) and Vixen.

- Also on Saturday, The Alma Inn, Bradshawgate, (pictured below) goes all punkabilly from 8pm onwards to host a free event featuring rockabilly and surf bands Graveyard Johnnys, The Hyperjax & Ten Foot Wave.
