BOLTON Wanderers legend Kevin Davies attended a party fit for a queen.

Daisy Hill Pre-School celebrated invited the former Whites captain to join in a double celebration marking Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday and the unveiling of a new play area.

Children dressed in red, white and blue, or regal outfits for the special occasion, and waited in excited anticipation to see who the famous person would be attending the party.

And it was hard to tell who were more excited — the children or the grown-ups as he walked through the door.

Karen Kay, deputy manager, said: “The children knew we would be having a famous person coming to the party, but didn’t know who it was.

“One little girl asked if it was the Queen and I had to tell her she was a little busy.

“We had kept it a secret all week and the parents and grandparents also joined the children and were excited to see Kevin Davies.

“They went up to him to have their photograph taken and get his autograph. He was really nice.”

Kevin was specially invited not only to celebrate the Queen’s special birthday with them but to unveil the new den in the play area, which his charity KiDs of Bolton had paid for along with football nets.

Bolton-based Cool Canvas has developed a den to capture the children’s imagination and which can be used as outdoor classroom as a storytelling area, which staff say will enrich and enhance the outdoor area.

The footballer tucked into cakes, made by the parents and grandparents, with the children.

Mrs Kay said: “The children have been learning about the royal family.

“We always like to celebrate occasions. We celebrated St George’s Day, it brings learning alive for the children.”

Mylie-Jayne Berthan, aged four, said: “The party was good, I enjoyed the food, I had chocolate cake and then some more chocolate cake.”

Phoebe Hickey, aged three, added: “We are celebrating the Queen’s birthday. She lives in a palace.

“I enjoyed it.”
