MORE details have been released about the ‘game changing’ plans to create an international championship standard gold course and complex on the Hulton Park Estate.

Last month The Bolton News exclusively revealed that Peel is preparing plans for the 18-hole golf course and has ambitions to host the world famous Ryder Cup tournament in 2026.

The developer has announced a series of public exhibitions next week, which will give local people a better understanding of the ambitious plans for the historic estate.

But more details have already emerged, with Peel confirming that as well as the ‘international championship standard’ course, there are proposals to build a luxury hotel on the site of the former Hulton Hall, as well as a golf clubhouse, conference facilities and a luxury spa.

The group also wants to develop a golf academy on the land, in the aim of encouraging young people to get into the sport.

A spokesman for Peel said: “One of the key lasting legacies we want to accomplish is creating a sporting venue that will inspire generations to take up golf and other forms of physical activity.

“A venue of the calibre we wish to build has the potential to host the largest and highest profile international events.”

The gold course itself is being designed by European Golf Design and Peel said it will be ‘one of the most exciting in the country.’

As well as creating the major development on the historic site, Peel said it wants to respect the heritage and beauty of the land and is planning to restore lost gardens and lakes on the estate and create a new community trail.

Local councillors and residents have expressed concerns about the level of housing that will be included with the plans and the subsequent impact on an already struggling local infrastructure network.

So far Peel will only say that ‘new homes’ will form part of the development, but have not specified numbers.

A spokesman added: “With new jobs created from the hotel, sporting and leisure facilities and the potential impact of hosting major sporting events, Hulton Park will be a game changing boost to the local economy and tourism in Bolton and Greater Manchester.”

A number of public exhibitions detailing Peel’s plans will be held next week, staring on Friday October 14 between 9am and 5pm at Bolton’s Market Place Shopping Centre.

This will be followed by a session the next day between 10am and 1pm at Westhoughton’s Carnegie Hall in Library street, with an afternoon session following at St Andrew’s CEP School in Crescent Avenue between 3 and 6pm.
