TWO men involved in a disturbance that preceded a man’s death have appeared before magistrates for breaching court orders.

Victim Mark Carroll was involved in a confrontation with others near his Farnworth home on November 21 last year.

The 43-year-old was found by police officers lying barely conscious in the street in Burnham Walk shortly before 2am and died in hospital.

In August Brynn Wood, aged 20, of Vernon Street, Farnworth, and John Greenwood, aged 29, of St Peter’s Terrace, Farnworth, who admitted intentionally causing harassment, alarm or distress.

Wood was given a curfew and a 12-month community order with a requirement to go to an attendance centre for 24 hours and to complete up to 10 days of rehabilitation activities.

However, Wood admitted to Bolton magistrates that he failed to comply with the requirements of his order, missing appointments on September 21 and 29.

Defending Wood, Leanne Hirst said: “He fully accepts his responsibilities and that is why he has admitted the breach.

“He doesn’t attempt to make any excuses and he knows he needs to make these appointments his priority.”

The court extended his curfew by a week and ordered Wood to visit the attendance centre for 12 more hours.

In August Greenwood was given a three-month community order with an electronically monitored 9pm to 6am curfew.

He also appeared before Bolton magistrates yesterday and admitted breaching his order by failing to attend appointments on August 28 and September 27.

Gordon McMahon, prosecuting, said Greenwood had shown “poor compliance” with the order.

Defending Greenwood, Peter Leather said: “He accepts that he failed to attend these appointments. The first one was because he had employment and had to go to the dentist and was running late.”

The second one was due to a mix-up over dates, added Mr Leather.

Chairwoman of the bench, Joyce Armistead warned Greenwood: “We are going to allow the order to continue with 10 hours added on.

“This is the second breach of this order. You won’t get a third chance.”
