PUPILS at Sharples Primary School enjoyed a jump start to their day as they take part in a two week healthy lifestyle programme.

Children have been star jumping and jogging in the playground to start their school day in an initiative to get their blood pumping before class.

Headteacher, Alan Hemmings, said: “It is an important part of the curriculum to learn about keeping healthy so to make an impact we decide to dedicate two weeks of the year to it.

“Our experience in the past showed us that the children become more engaged if we do it intensively for two weeks.

“The children come in and do a 10 minute routine to music each morning and it gets their blood pumping and brains working.

“The younger ones especially have really been enjoying it whereas the older ones are a bit more self-conscious but you can see that they love it too.

“I’m hoping that by the end the parents will be joining in too.”

The idea behind the annual event is to educate the children to make healthier options and choices in life.

Mr Hemmings added: “It has been a great success and everyone enjoys it. “It’s a great way to start the day.”

All 210 pupils are getting involved in the daily activity Wake and Shake which changes each day but is based around exercising to music.

The children will do their second week of activities the week after the half term break which is taking place next week.
