MOTORISTS are being urged to follow diversions after reports of ‘appalling’ signage and traffic chaos due to a road closure.

Resurfacing work has been taking place in Higher Bridge Street from Topp Way to Waters Meeting Road since Monday and is expected to take around six weeks to complete.

To minimise disruption, work is being carried out between 7pm until 6am and sections of the road are closed.

One motorist reported that traffic was ‘chaos’ and branded the diversions as ‘appalling’. There were also claims that the closure had been put in place earlier than announced.

A spokesman for Bolton Council said that it was aware of problems last night and urged people to follow the diversions.

He added that the council was not aware of the roads being closed earlier than announced but that the council would speak to the contractors.
