Bolton’s Hindu community has paid tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack.
Members of the Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple, in Adelaide Street, Daubhill, held prayers on the steps of the town hall, while some held ‘I Love MCR’ placards.
They then performed dances in Victoria Square for those who were affected by the tragedy.
More than 50 members of the temple turned out to pay their respects at the event on Bank Holiday Monday.
Harish Varsani, a trustee at the temple, said members wanted to show their support for the victims and condemnation of the attack.
He said : “We are doing this in honour of what happened in Manchester last week.We are a peaceful Hindu society and want to demonstrate we are against what happened last week and were totally appalled by it. We thought we would take advantage of this bank holiday to pay our respects.”
He added: “We believe that god’s name is so potent it can actually influence people and people’s minds.
“By chanting the lord’s name and saying prayers we’re basically trying to influence world peace and bring peace to the souls affected by this terror attack.
“We are invoking the Lord’s presence to show our commitment to making Manchester a safer place.”
