PEOPLE are being warned about possible flooding tonight.

The Upper River Irwell catchment could flood overnight, including in Bolton and Ramsbottom.

A band of heavy rain is expected to cross the area overnight and into the early hours of tomorrow and river levels are expected to rise as a result.

Once the rain has cleared tomorrow, the rest of the Wednesday is expected to be dry, which should allow river levels to fall once more.

People are being urged to be aware of their local surroundings and to be safe.

The Environment Agency said it will continue to monitor the situation and update people.
