LATEST figures have shown that the number of unemployed people in Bolton dropped by 125 last month.

The recent figures from the Department for Work and Pensions showed there were 5,560 people in Bolton claiming in October compared to 5,685.

However, this was also 230 more than October last year, which adds up to a four per cent rise.

But there were 95 fewer people aged between 18 and 24 claiming job seekers' allowance, which is a fall of seven per cent.

Since 2010, the total figure for all ages has gone down 1,568.

Nationally, unemployment is down 59,000 on the quarter and is the lowest rate since 1975. The employment rate is at 75 per cent with 32 million people in work.

Minister for Employment Damian Hinds said: "The strength of the economy is driving an increase in full-time, permanent jobs and a near-record number of people are now in work thanks to the Government’s welfare reforms."
