A FARM is hoping to convert one of its barns into two homes.

The owners of Umberton Farm in Salford Road, Over Hulton, have submitted a planning application to Bolton Council.

They propose to convert a 'traditional' brick barn in the farmyard into two detached, four-bedroom houses.

It would also include the construction of car parking and garden areas.

A statement submitted to the council said: "The applicants have been winding down their farming activities over the last couple of years and have decided, like many rural property owners with traditional barns, to apply for planning permission to convert the traditional brick barn situated within the farmyard to a residential use through conversion of the existing barn.

"The conversion retains the character and appearance and appearance of the original barn. Adequate vehicle parking and garden areas can be provided in the existing farmyard without encroaching on the agricultural grassland."
