FOUR people arrested on suspicion of firearms offences have been bailed.

Three teenagers, aged 16, 17 and 19, and a 20-year-old were arrested following reports of a fight in Cecil Street in Walkden after a shot was fired from what police believe was a handgun.

It was recovered nearby and no one was injured in the shooting.

Kimberley Morgan, of Cecil Street, said: “They were in the street talking and constantly running up and down and going into one of the houses.

“I didn’t hear the gunshot, but I saw the police arrive and two officers pin someone down and arrest them.

“It doesn’t often happen to you on your own street. I didn’t expect there to be a gun but at least nobody got hurt.”

Another Cecil Street resident, John Ward, said: “I heard a loud bang and I thought a car had backfired.

“I had seen the kids along the road but we get it all the time here so I just ignored it.”

The street was cordoned off by police for most of the following day while forensics officers examined the scene.

The people arrested have been bailed until October 4.

Inquiries are still ongoing. Anyone with information should call the police on 0161 856 5351, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
