RESIDENTS in Bromley Cross fear someone will be killed if motorists do not slow down on a busy road in the area.

People living in Darwen Road spoke out after a car careered out of control, hit a parked car and landed on its side.

The crash happened at around 8am on Saturday on the main road, which leads to Turton and Bradshaw from Bolton.

And a resident captured what happened on his camera.

He said: "I am hoping that by seeing what happened, either Bolton Council will do something to make the road safer, or motorists that do speed along this road will see the dangers of driving too fast.

"It is often young men who speed and they would not want this to happen to their car. They would be devastated."

The crash involved a VW Lupo and a parked Vauxhall Corsa, which was badly damaged in the crash.

Another resident said: "If something is not done then someone will be killed.

"There are elderly people who walk along this road and it is simply sheer luck that no one has been seriously injured.

"We have the same problems as all main roads do, but hopefully such drivers might now just think twice."

Residents helped the driver of the VW Lupo, who had managed to free himself from the car while it was on its side. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A police spokesman said: "A male adult has been arrested for driving with excess alcohol."
