A BOLTON courier firm has teamed up with local company Carrs Pasties to take its delicious delights to new areas of the UK.

Family-run Nexday Overnite Ltd, part of the UK’s largest independent parcel network, APC Overnight, is now collecting and delivering over 1,000 pasties every week.

The move has created new business opportunities for the company which has been within the Carrs family at its Manchester Road headquarters for more than 50 years.

The partnership began soon after Ian Fox, director of NexDay Overnite, noticed the trend of local newsagents across Bolton, Wigan and Bury, stocking the pasties.

This led to Ian offering to deliver them nationwide, using specialist temperature controlled boxes which keep them frozen and fresh throughout the journey.

To date, Nexday Overnite has delivered more than 150 consignments of pasties to destinations as far afield as Southsea and Portsmouth.

Mr Fox said: “It seemed a shame for the rest of the country to miss out on Carrs Pasties when we had the ideal delivery solution to hand.

"It’s great to work so closely with another local business, especially one that produces the best steak pasty around.

“I own the depot with my grandparents but the family affair becomes even bigger twice every month when my aunt and uncle pay the site a visit and we order pasties for the whole depot to enjoy.”

Carrs director, Joseph Carr, said: “Shortly after receiving Ian’s call we undertook a test of the service to ensure that the very highest food safety standards would be upheld and it wasn’t long until we signed up for a long-term delivery partnership.

“It’s great to collaborate with another local business that understands our objectives and can help us to build our brand nationwide by providing an unrivalled delivery service.”

Carrs Pasties shot to national fame thanks to Radio Two DJ Chris Evans, who first sampled them at a charity golf event.
