A NEW modernised Post Office is set to open in Great Lever — with customers able to visit on Sundays.

The existing Great Lever Post Office in Rishton Lane will be transformed into an upgraded facility with features including an open-plan counter and new screened position.

The current site will close at 5.30pm on Thursday February 19 — with plans to open the refurbished store at a launch event on Saturday March 7.

Customers will be pleased to hear that the branch will increase its opening hours by 25 hours and 30 minutes a week, including opening on Sundays.

The branch itself will be open from 9am until 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday with selected products and services available from the retail counter during shop opening hours — which are 7am to 6.30pm from Monday to Friday, 7am to 5.30pm on Saturday and 8am to 1pm on Sunday.

The move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Local residents and small business customers will be able to access services including sending international parcels, paying bills, mobile phone top ups and making cash withdrawals from a Post Office Accounts.

For the first time customers will now also be able to renew their car tax at the Rushton Lane site.

When the current branch closes on February 19, customers are advised to use nearby facilities in Crescent Road and Plodder Lane until the Rishton Lane premises re-launches.

Post Office area manager, Alan Currie, said: “We know how important Post Office services are to residents in Bolton and we are confident that this vibrant modern Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.

“The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade.”
