MORRISONS in Bolton has received a £1,000 cash boost after winning a national competition.

The Atlas Mills store off Chorley Old Road, Heaton, was one of 40 across the country to win £1,000 towards their fundraising total for the Morrisons Raise a Smile scheme with Sue Ryder.

The cash award comes after sales of The Health Lottery tickets increased by 30 per cent over a two month period.

The money raised from the Raise a Smile project will go towards the new Morrisons-funded Sue Ryder community healthcare services being established in the north of England.

The services, which will include family support teams and an online community with online support, will also offer complementary therapy sessions and befriending services.

People with life-limiting conditions will be given support in their own homes to provide the best possible care to people at the end of their lives and support for their families.

Martin Ellice, joint managing director of Northern & Shell, which owns and operates The Health Lottery, said: “Sue Ryder is an excellent cause and we are honoured to be able to contribute to their work thanks to the success of this project.

"Working with retail partners on community projects has proven a great way for The Health Lottery to ensure funds reach charities quickly, and Morrisons staff and community teams have contributed invaluable knowledge of worthy projects seeking funding in their local areas.”

Every Health Lottery ticket sold by Morrisons raises money for health-related causes across Britain, and the lottery has already helped to raise £4 million for local health projects.
