A MAN is in a serious condition after he was attacked at a house in Tonge Park.

The 42-year-old man, who is believed to be the owner of the house, in Huntroyde Avenue, off Ainsworth Lane, was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.

A 23-year-old woman was also assaulted at the house and was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The assault happened at 10.45am on Saturday morning, and police have remained at the scene until today.

Police have made no arrests currently.

The house, at the junction of Entwistle Street, was being guarded by police at the back and front this morning as crime scene investigation officers continue to comb the house.

Speaking at the scene, Detective Inspector Matthew Moore said: "There has been a serious assault to the occupier of the address.

"We are continuing to actively investigate the incident. No arrests have been made, but our enquiries are ongoing."

Neighbours said that man lived alone at the house, and has a son who no longer lives there.

A resident said: "I haven't spoke to him before Christmas, but I know he hasn't been back long after going to Thailand. I don't know where the son lives, but I know he lives on his own now."

Another said: "I was asleep at the time but I did get woken up by a lot of car doors slamming.

"There has been a lot of hassle at that house. I have been here for two years, and they have had their windows put through a few times."

Another nearby resident said: "An ambulance and police have been at the house since Saturday morning, and they have been there ever since guarding the house."
