POLICE took to the streets to try to catch motorists putting themselves and others in danger.
Officers carried out spot checks on drivers in Manchester Road on Friday morning.
As well as drink and drugs checks, police were looking for motorists not wearing seatbelts and using mobile phones.
They also checked that the drivers were licensed and insured.
Two people were caught on the phone or not using seatbelts.
Sgt Andrea Ennis, who led the operation, said: "It was a quiet morning really, but the spot checks were carried out regularly and we found two drivers to be flouting the rules.
"It is amazing just how many people we encounter not wearing seat belts. You cannot understand why they would do it as the potential consequences are so stark."
