A BOLTON charity shop has been targeted by thieves for the eighth time this year.

Volunteers at the Mencap on Chorley Old Road fear going to work after another theft and break-in at the store.

Thieves stole one of the charity’s fold-away tables in the latest break-in last week.

Then overnight the store’s locks and gates were damaged when the backyard was broken into.

Project Manager Amy Wilding said: “The students and volunteers are scared at what they are going to come in to each morning. Not only do they cost us money they make such a mess.

“We have had several break-ins over the past year.

"We have spent hundreds on more security new locks — even the police have sent community security services to put up new locks on.

“This time they have completely damaged our gates and stolen all the locks.

“We are at a loss as to what we can do now — we have no more money to spend on it.”

The charity shop, which supports people with learning disabilities, was previously targeted six times between June 24 and July 4.

The theft of the table took place between 10.30am and 11am on Thursday, September 17.

Both incidents have been reported to the police and anyone with information is asked to call 101.

The store is appealing to the public for donations towards improving security and is seeking an iron gate to help secure the premises.
