A TYRE garage boss is hoping to track down burglars who broke in and stole a till containing an entire week's takings.

Ryan Burns, who operates Metro Tyres in Bury Road, Breightmet, said a CCTV camera caught the offenders in action.

He posted the footage on social media where it has been viewed more than 15,000 times.

The duo struck between 6pm on Thursday and 8.20am on Friday and made off with the till and its £1,200 contents.

Mr Burns, aged 29, said: "I just work for wages. There's no big profit margins in our business.

"It's businesses like myself just getting by.

"There was some money on site as we were having a delivery on the Friday and I had left the takings in the till to pay for it.

"I have two lads who work here with me and Friday was pay day so we worked the whole week for absolutely nothing."

Mr Burns said the burglars, carrying small torches, cut the wires to the alarm system, security lights and external security cameras.

They stole ladders from a neighbouring garden and clambered up onto the roof via scaffolding that had been constructed around the building because the roof was being replaced.

They left the valuable tools and went straight to the office to grab the till.

The two were in and out within just 10 minutes.

Mr Burns, of Chorley New Road, Heaton, said: "I've been open for four years and had no trouble whatsoever before this.

"I have rung the police three times and they have still not even been round.

"A forensics officer came on Friday but she said because of the weather she couldn't take any evidence and obviously she didn't take a statement.

"The only person who is looking for these criminals is me. It's not really fair.

"I don't understand how important a crime has to be for an officer to come out.

"I'm disappointed with the police response but I spoke to several people about this and they said this is now the norm."

Mr Burns, whose father-in-law Terry runs Metro Salvage, said on top of the lost earnings he will have to fork out for £400 to repair the roof damage.

The two burglars featured in Mr Burns' black and white infrared footage were tall and stocky with snoods covering their faces and gloves on.

One wore a puffer jacket over a sweatshirt with the hood up and covered with a baseball cap while his accomplice had a jacket on with the hood up.

After the video was posted online a resident of Ainsworth called into Metro Tyres to say intruders who closely matched the description had burgled his home a fortnight before.

In that case, the perpetrators had similarly snipped wires to disable the security systems and were carrying familiar torches.

A police spokesman said: "Burglary is a very intrusive crime and we are doing everything we can to identify those responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
