A motorist has admitted killing a hair salon owner whom he ran over after she fell into the road.

Tinashe Chikoto was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus that struck Louise Wolstenholme in Bow Street in Bolton town centre at 10pm on Sunday, January 31.

The 52-year-old victim had crossed the street at the junction of Crown Street and fell over backwards in the middle of the carriageway.

CCTV footage shows that a short time later a First bus and two cars slow down to swerve around her.

There was a short break in traffic before Chikoto's Focus hit her.

The car pulled up on Back Bridge Street and Chikoto abandoned the vehicle before contacting police later that night. He was later arrested and charged.

Chikoto denied causing death by dangerous driving at Bolton Crown Court — but admitted a lesser offence of causing death by careless driving.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of a collision, failing to report a collision and causing death while unlicensed.

The 22-year-old, of Devonshire Road, Atherton, was remanded back in custody and will be sentenced on March 23 at the same court.

His admission came the day after the funeral of Ms Wolstenholme, a mother-of-two who lived close to her business, Louise's Hair Studio, in Bury Road, Bolton.

Her family paid tribute at the time of her death by saying: "She was a loving mother of Gaz and Brad.

"She was loved by all her family, was a loving godmother and was a faithful and loyal friend to many.

"Louise had a big heart as big as her personality and will be devastatingly missed."

Ms Wolstenholme's funeral service took place at Trinity Methodist Church in Tonge Old Road, Bolton, followed by committal at Overdale Crematorium.

Chikoto's co-defendants Ludovic Mabiala, aged 24, of Hypatia Street, Tonge Moor, and Nqobile Mariwandi, aged 26, of Patterson Street, Deane, each face a single count of assisting an offender.

Their cases have been adjourned until March 23 and neither has yet entered a plea.
