A DRUNKEN man who was convicted of licking a 12-year-old girl’s eyeball has been jailed after he was subsequently caught carrying knives in public.

Gary Naylor, aged 24, of St Helens Road, Bolton, pleaded guilding to two counts of possessing knives, assault, theft, criminal damage and breach of a suspended sentence.

In December Naylor was convicted of assaulting the schoolgirl but Bolton Crown Court heard how, on February 11 he got drunk, assaulted his girlfriend and smashed her furniture, hurling items through a window before walking out with two of her kitchen knives in his hands. Alarmed members of the public phoned police and in the Black Horse pub, Breightmet, he stole a woman’s mobile phone as she tried to help him.

Kate Harney, defending said he is taking steps to address his problems with alcohol.

Jailing Naylor for 66 weeks, Recorder Craig Sephton told Naylor: “You have an absolutely appalling record — you should be ashamed of yourself.

“I sincerely hope you are going to mend your ways.”
