A VAN driver was robbed as he delivered poultry to a bakery.

The 44-year-old was unloading the goods from a van, outside a bakery in Shuttle Street, Tyldesley, when a man demanded his keys.

When he refused, the robber pushed him to the ground, demanded cash, and threatened to beat him up.

The driver handed over a large amount of cash and the robber ran and jumped into the passenger seat of a rusty white Mercedes Sprinter van, which drove off towards Union Street, and turned right into Ellsemere Street.

The robber is described as white, in his late 20s, 6ft tall and stocky. He had short fair hair, stubble, and spoke with a mild Liverpudlian accent.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans, scruffy trainers, and a black bobble hat with a peak.

The incident happened at about 12.30pm on Monday.

Det Con Andy Doran said: “It is horrible that this man had his honest day’s work ruined by someone determined to take what wasn’t theirs.”
