CHARITIES and community groups in Bolton could be set for a huge tax windfall.

Businesses have been invited to a summit at the Reebok Stadium where they will be urged to use tax breaks to give to local good causes.

It is hoped the event, organised by Bolton West MP Julie Hilling, will help plug the shortfall in funding for charities due to the current economic climate.

Ms Hilling said: “The voluntary and community sector is being seriously hit by savage cuts. Times are very difficult for charities and community groups who perform such an invaluable service to our community.

“I urge businesses, whether large or small, to come along and find out how they can get involved, and to see how contributions of time or money can really help to transform the lives of local residents.”

The event will be hosted at the Premier Suite at the Reebok Stadium on April 20 and Ms Hilling is hoping to attract more than 300 businesses.

It could mean thousands of pounds going to local good causes.

The event is free and every delegate will receive two tickets to a Bolton game.

Bolton Wanderers, Bolton CVS, Bolton Council and Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce are supporting the summit.

Ms Hilling will introduce and chair the event and representatives from businesses and charities will also speak.

It is also hoped a senior official from HM Revenue and Customs will speak about tax benefits of charitable giving.
