A SECONDARY school teacher has pleaded guilty to sending sex texts to a 14-year-old boy who was one of her pupils.

Kathryn Roach, aged 24, admitted a charge of inciting a child to engage sexual activity being a person in a position of trust at Bolton Crown Court yesterday.

She denied a charge of meeting a child following sexual grooming.

Roach, of Park View Road, Croxteth, Liverpool, must now sign the sexual offenders register.

The charges relate to a series of sexual text messages which Roach sent to the teenage boy. He was a pupil at the school in Bolton where she taught, which cannot be named for legal reasons.

The court heard the messages were sent between March 22 and April 14 last year.

David Clarke, prosecuting, said: “Sexual activity did not actually take place. The extent it would have gone to one cannot tell.”

The court heard that both Roach and the boy had deleted the exchange of messages.

The case has been adjourned until October 31 for sentencing.

Judge Steven Everett said: “You must now go on the sexual offenders’ register.

“I am granting you bail and I have no thoughts to what sentence is appropriate, be it custody or none custodial.

“I will make up my mind when I have read more about you.”

Roach no longer works at the school. A council spokesman said: “Following the arrest last April, the school acted swiftly to suspend the teacher in question while the investigation took place, and took all the steps required to ensure pupils’ safety. The teacher’s employment with the school has since terminated.

Bolton Council takes all incidents potentially involving the safety and welfare of children very seriously and ensured all necessary procedure was instigated as quickly as possible.”
