MOST of us can remember individual teachers who made a real difference to our school days.

They were the ones who particularly inspired us to explore, experiment and push ourselves, whether it was in English, science, maths, languages and sport — or any subject.

It could be that they brought what otherwise seemed to be a dull curriculum to life because of their enthusiasm and ability to explain complicated ideas.

Or it maybe that they particularly encouraged you as a pupil to take part in lessons and express yourself so you gained confidence and came to enjoy learning.

These are the professional and personal qualities embedded in the winner of The Bolton News Primary School Teacher of the Year Award, sponsored by Bolton Council.

Angela Brooks is based at St Catherine's School in Horwich, where she is described as working "tirelessly to ensure the pupils in key stage one and her own class receive an education which stimulates and stretches them."

Her personality is described as "warm and caring" who rewards pupils for their hard work and achievements.

The nomination stated: "Pupils know what they need to do to learn and enjoy the journey."

Mrs Brooks who has worked as a teacher for 15-years, said: "It is fabulous to be voted Primary Teacher of the Tear, it is a great honour.

"I love seeing the children succeed, I love everything about the about the job — writing the reports at the end of the year and see the progress the children have made.

"I like doing the extra things out of school."

She also runs the school gymnastic club which last won the Greater Manchester final.

Headteacher of St Catherine's CE Primary School said: "Outstanding teachers weave magic every day in school and make an immense difference to children's lives.

"It is important that we celebrate the achievements of such teachers, who go the extra mile because they love the job they do.

"I am so proud that one of our amazing team has been recognised in this way.

"Mrs Brooks is a much loved teacher and she thoroughly deserves the award.

"We are all thrilled for her.
