MUMS and dads proved they had the right moves when they hit the dancefloor with their children.

For St James CE Primary School in Daisy Hill made sure all the school, including parents, enjoyed an active and healthy start to the half-term holiday.

The school held a marathon zumba session for its year four pupils and parents were invited too join in the toe-tapping event.

The zumba class was held in the school hall with parents being invited to take part in the keep fit craze to find out how much fun keeping fit with their youngsters can be.

Parents who initially sat round watching ended up joining their children on the floor as they became caught up in the energy and music — and showed their children how good they were at the dance moves.

St James' CE Primary School has Healthy School status and the dance-exercise was part of the school's work to promote health and well being to both children and adults as well as promoting parental links within the school.

Year four teacher Faye Stirzaker said: "Both year four classes took part in the Zumbathon.

"Parents also came into school to watch, they sat round and some of the them starting joining in which they children really enjoyed and were excited about.

"About 50 parents came into school.

"The boys really enjoyed the class too — because it can be hard getting them to dance.

"We hope parents will go back and know that they can keep active and be with their children at the same time."
