THE best of the Bolton school community have been given a chance to shine.

Behind classroom doors are thousands of teachers, pupils and staff working hard every day to bring top class education to the community.

And here we honour the achievements of those people and places that make up all that’s good in the borough’s schools at the second Bolton News School Awards.

Primary Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Bolton Council: Wendy Nunns

OUR Primary School Teacher of the Year loves her school and the children in it, according to the headteacher of Blackrod Primary School, Ian Dryburgh.

Mr Dryburgh put forward Wendy Nunns for the award as she puts the needs and aspirations of every child first.

Mrs Nunns started at the school as a newly qualified teacher 25 years ago, rising to her current position of deputy headteacher with a specific responsibility for class teaching.

And says her headteacher she has “proved herself not only an exemplary professional but even more importantly a person who is full of warmth and humanity who always put the needs and aspiration of every child first. She loves her school and the children in it.”

Mrs Nunns has taught all age groups and she encourages them to work hard and goes above and beyond to create special memories through school events and trips.

Mr Dryburgh said: “She leads the round of school events making sure every child has a chance to participate.”

He added: “Children look back to their time at Blackrod with great happiness thanks to Wendy Nunns and her willingness to fight for every child and their entitlement to receive a rounded education full of joy and learning.”

Mrs Nunns said: “I am thrilled to receive the Primary Teacher Award.
“I still love every minute of my job and have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing staff, children and parents over the years.

Blackrod is a fantastic school, with a team of teachers who work incredibly hard to provide exciting opportunities for our children. I love my job and can’t imagine doing anything else.”
