UNEMPLOYED young people in Bolton are invited to take part in a life-changing course which could put them on the pathway to success.

The first-of-its kind 12-week free activity packed programme in Bolton will see Groundwork and Princes Trust link up with Bolton College to ensure unemployed young people in the town are given the opportunity to turn their lives around and fulfil their ambitions.

It is designed to be fun, increase the confidence of those taking part as well as helping them gain qualifications, skills and experience.

The course is full-time and those enrolled on it will take part in a free outdoor pursuits residential, twoweek work experience placement, CV, job search and interview training.

They will also train and receive certificates in food hygiene, first aid and manual handling certificates, and be given the opportunity to improve basic numeracy and literacy skills.

The programme should not affect job seekers allowance and free transport is provided.

It is for 16-to-25-year-olds who are unemployed, particularly those out of work for six months or more, as well as others who need help to get back on the right track.

Young people will take part in team building exercises and co-ordinate a project to benefit their community.

A well-being co-ordinator will be on hand to help those on the course achieve their ambitions as well as provide support throughout the 12 weeks.

Executive director for Groundwork Tony Taylor said: “I have particularly found our on-going discussions with the senior management of Bolton College an extremely positive experience and feel the combined strengths of both organisations bodes well.”

Sharon Marriott, Bolton College director of adult learning and higher education, added: “We’re very proud to be associated with the Prince’s Trust by supporting this fantastic initiative with Groundwork.

“These programmes provide a vital lifeline for individuals who may have previously slipped through the net. Those selected will benefit massively from this course, with practical support and advice geared at supporting them into work, education or training.”
