VIEWERS have been given a first glimpse of Peter Kay’s long-awaited comedy Car Share.

A clip from the forthcoming sitcom features in a trailer to showcase popular BBC programmes to be broadcast throughout 2015.

It shows the 41-year-old Bolton funnyman wearing a vest and in a car with co-star Sian Gibson who plays Kayleigh.

The comedy — about two colleagues who have been thrown together in a company car share scheme — is expected to be launched online in the spring before being shown on the BBC.

The six-part series was first commissioned in March 2013 and the Phoenix Nights star was spotted filming scenes in Altrincham three months later.

Last month, he was seen in Horwich filming further scenes in Winter Hey Lane and Cafe Brambles.

He said: “To be finally working with the BBC on a new comedy is a great opportunity.

"And the idea of two people car sharing to work each day really appealed to me, as it highlights the comedy in the minutiae of the daily trek and allows the spiralling conversations of life to unwind in all of their glory."

Created by Tim Reid and Paul Coleman, each journey in Car Share brings fresh insight into John and Kayleigh's lives, with twists and turns in their unlikely relationship.

As well as playing John, the stand-up comedian, who will take to the Manchester Arena stage later this month for a charity run of Phoenix Nights live shows, also directs the six-part series.

The trailer also features clips from other shows including hit romantic drama Last Tango in Halifax — parts of which were filmed in Bolton — The Voice UK, Strictly Come Dancing, Eastenders, Luther and Happy Valley.

The much-anticipated return of Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is also featured, as well as Dr Who, with Peter Capaldi.

Comedian Jason Manford appears in Ordinary Lies and an adaptation of JK Rowling's novel The Casual Vacancy is also in the line-up.
