MOSS Bank Park was transformed into Hogwarts for the day when excited youngsters enjoyed a magical Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt.

Strong winds did nothing to deter visitors as 20 people, including children aged five to 13 and their families, visited The Hive to take part in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

Those who took part made their own magic potions and magical tool kit, created a screaming Mandrake plant and hunted mythical creatures in the park.

The event is part of Lancashire Wildlife Trust's Wild Families programme, which features differently-themed activities every month.

Senior project officer Charlene Barlow, from the trust, helps run the sessions.

She said: "The kids really enjoyed it and thought the activities were really good fun.

"It gives me a real buzz seeing the children's faces light up when they are doing the activities. These sessions give the kids an affinity with nature from a young age.

"It makes them realise that they don't need to be sat indoors playing Xbox or Playstation to have a good time — they can have just as much fun outdoors."

To promote a more active, healthy lifestyle for children, workers at Moss Bank Park give parents suggestions of activities they may want to try at home.

The Wild Families sessions run once a month at The Hive and have attracted as many as 60 children in the past.

The next session will be on the theme of "art attack" and will take place on Saturday, February 7, from 11am to 1pm.

Pre-booking is essential and entry costs £3 per person or £10 for a family of four.
