Here's our guide to what you can do in and around Bolton this weekend.
1. Dino-mania is coming to Bolton on Saturday. Design a dinosaur egg and a dinosaur baby to hatch from inside it at High Street Library. Suitable for ages 4 to 11.
2. Watch a play which was branded controversial and left some audience members aghast when it was first staged in 1912. It is the opening weekend of Hindle Wakes – one of the first plays to have a central working class female character – at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre.
3. You watched them in their auditions, boot camp and the live shows and now The X Factor class of 2014 is heading to an arena near you. Singers including Andrea Faustini, Ben Haenow, Fleur East (pictured below) and Stevi Ritchie will be at the Manchester Arena on Friday and Saturday.
4. Get your folk on at the eighth annual Big Whistle Festival. The Met in Bury is hosting the event, until Sunday, with headliners including Michael McGoldrick and Treacherous Orchestra (pictured below) still to play.
5. Enjoy some half term fun on the fair. Take a ride on the waltzer or dodgems at the fair which is opposite Moor Lane bus station until Sunday.
