1. Sam Holcroft’s ‘The Wardrobe’ at the Octagon theatre – Friday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm
In 1485, Elizabeth of York and her sister Cecily step into their wardrobe to find some space for themselves. The Wardrobe changes hands through the years and up to the present day and those who use it tell their stories in this intimate space.
2. Thin Lizzy Tribute ‘Black Rose’ at Botanical Gardens Pub in Atherton
Catch the best rock tribute bands at the event, which is raising money for the National Association for Bikers with a Disability. Other bands playing feature Statease Quo and Blood Brothers.
3. Re:light production, Cheapside Square, off Victoria Square, Saturday at 8.30pm
A free light show projected onto buildings in Cheapside Square, which has been inspired by Bolton Museum’s Egyptology collection. The event is the result of a three-month project involving youth and community groups in Bolton.
4. Butterfly detectives, Seven Acres Swifts, Environmental Resource Centre in Bury Road, Sunday from 10am until noon
This is the perfect day out for children who care about nature and love wildlife. Youngsters aged between eight and 11 can explore local wild places, go on a butterfly count and make butterfly feeders.
5. Mrs Browns Boys - How Now Mrs Brown Cow, Manchester Arena, Friday and Saturday from 7.30pm
Popular TV series Mrs Brown’s Boys returns to the theatre for its latest live show. Staring Brendan O'Carroll as crude matriarch Agnes Brown.
