VARIOUS issues concerning a road in Harper Green were brought up at the town's area forum meeting.

Residents of Greenland Road said the street had poor drainage and has become a target for fly-tippers at the meeting.

It was also suggested that ambulances had trouble getting to the street because of parking congestion.

Kevin Gleeson, aged 70, of Greenland Road said: "The drains on our street never get cleaned out - they are always getting blocked up, which means the water floods people's gardens.

"We have a big rubbish problem - there are crisp packets and drinks bottles all over the street. I go out to clean it at weekends and I fill up two waste bags.

"The issue needs to be brought up with the schools nearby because it's clearly kids acting irresponsibly."

Another Greenland resident said: "We have white lines across our drives and yet residents still park there. I've even some cars driving down the pavement.

"Sometimes the street is so cluttered that ambulances are not able to access Greenland Road.

It was also revealed at the meeting that the Quid-a-kid initiative, which gives young people from disadvantaged areas a chance to get involved in sports, has raised £14,000 since it was set up 22 months ago.

This money will be used to continue providing free sports activities to young people aged eight to 16 from Farnworth, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Harper Green Leisure Centre.

The Harper Green area forum meeting took place at Mount St Joseph's High School in Greenland Road, Farnworth, on Monday night.
