A DRIVER had to be cut free from his vehicle after crashing into a wall in Farnworth.

The man, believed to be in his late 20s, lost control of his black Subaru in Bolton Road between Alfred Street and Egerton Street at 1.30am on Sunday.

He hit the wall and was trapped in the vehicle by his legs, so firefighters from Farnworth cut the doors and roof off the car and he was lifted out from above, with the help of the technical rescue unit from Leigh fire.

As he had crashed the car on the driver’s side, crews also had to use a snake eye camera to inspect where he was trapped before beginning the rescue, which took about an hour.

The man suffered leg injuries and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital’s trauma unit to be assessed.

Watch manager from Farnworth, Carl Haslam said: “The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the wall very hard. He was trapped by his legs so we attended the scene with Leigh’s technical rescue unit, which is similar to ours.

“It took us about an hour to get him out – it was a very long operation. He suffered leg injuries but we were unable to tell exactly how bad it was so he went to hospital to be checked out properly.”
