A DOG owner called canine-nine-nine after his pet got stuck under a jetty next to a reservoir.
The animal, believed to be a Jack Russell-type terrier, got into difficulties at Moses Gate Country Park this morning.
It is understood that animal became trapped after crawling into a small gap at one end of the jetty.
The female dog had found its way on to two rocks in the water, but was then unable to find its way back out.
Firefighters from Bolton and Farnworth were called to the incident at about 10.45am.
Crew manager Oliver Deller said firefighters took about five minutes to cut a hole in the jetty and rescue the dog, which had been trapped for nearly an hour.
He added that the owner, a man in his mid-50s, was not overly distressed by his dog's plight.
He said: "He was quite calm, he could see his dog and knew nothing to bad had happened to it. But he was relieved when we rescued it."
