PEOPLE remembered their loved ones at a moving church service for Bolton Hospice’s Light up a Life appeal.

The service was held at Bolton Parish Church on Wednesday night.

The appeal invites supporters from across Bolton to dedicate a light on one of the hospice’s commemorative trees in memory of loved ones missed but never forgotten.

The remembrance services allow for a time to reflect at Christmas.

Pupils from St Columba’s RC Primary School and St Simon and Judes Church of England Primary School sung carols.

And as Bolton Youth Brass Band played, the lights were slowly dimmed to darkness, before a tree was lit up in tribute to those who will be missed this Christmas.

Siobhan McGarel, events coordinator at Bolton Hospice, said “This is a fantastic service every year and we’re grateful to Bolton Parish Church, the schools and brass band for their continued support.

"This year the appeal has had incredible support and donations are still coming in.

"Thank you to everyone who chooses to support the hospice in this personal way.”

As well as attending the service, people could make their own donations to the appeal.

The money raised each year by Light up a Life helps the hospice to continue providing specialist care for local people with life limiting illnesses.

There are still lights available for anyone looking to dedicate a light this Christmas.

Bolton Hospice will hold a second service next Wednesday, December 17, in the grounds of the hospice in Queens Park Street, off Chorley New Road, from 7pm.
