HORWICH’S main shopping street will be closed off for a huge party.

Twelve pubs will be involved in the event which is being organised by Jo Taylor, the landlady of The Saddle Inn.

The street party kicks off on Saturday, September 27, at 6.30pm and will go on until late into the night.

During the festivities, there will be four marquees put up, housing a variety of musical acts and they will be joined by fire breathers and street performers as well as a dance parade which will make its way through Lee Lane.

Throughout the evening, guests will be asked to take part in different sponsored events including a three-legged race, a sponsored head shave and a sponsored chest wax.

Ms Taylor has been granted permission by Bolton Council’s Highways department to close Lee Lane to motorists during the event and is encouraging local businesses to get involved.

The 36-year old, who is also a student nurse, said: “We did an event for charity last year at the Saddle and raised about £800, so this year we thought why not get all the other pubs involved as well and make it a lot bigger?”

Ms Taylor and her partner are set to leave the Saddle next month and she said the street party would be “a great way to sign off”.

She added: “We are all about getting involved with the community here. Horwich has a great community spirit and we love doing things to give a bit back.

“We want this to be a fantastic community event for people to enjoy, which will raise a lot of money for a great cause.”

She chose to raise funds for Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, after meeting several customers who had lost children who were cared for at the hospice.

Organisers said there would be designated drinking areas and security will be on hand to make sure there is no trouble.
