RAF veteran Peter Carruthers will see his work on the distressing but topical subject of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) aired on television.

Mr Carruthers, who lives in Horwich, has now finished the third in a series of films tackling the subject of PTSD and its effects on veterans and their families.

The films — Fallout, Civvy Street and the latest, Unload — will feature on Forces TV during their PTSD season.

They have been created by Mr Carruthers who also acts in the films and show the devastating effects the disorder can have on veterans and their families.

His work is being used as an NHS learning tool for professionals and Mr Carruthers hopes to, eventually, be able to show his films all over the country to military audiences and veterans in order to get the message across.

"There is still a stigma attached to PTSD and I want to help solve that," says 37-year-old Mr Carruthers who lives in Crown Lane and has two children, 14-year-old Luke and Anna, aged 11.

The films will be shown on the Forces TV channel — which is available to anyone with Sky TV or Virgin — on March 18, 19, 20 and 21 at 9pm with a showing of the new film closing the PTSD season on March 24 at 10pm.

"It is a real honour for my film to close the season and I hope it makes a difference to people," he said.

Mr Carruthers, who served in the RAF from 1996 to 2003 as an aircraft technician, trained to be an actor at the Arden School of Theatre and became a film maker.

He hopes the films will help people empathise with veterans who have suffered from PTSD.

"My hope is they will help people understand PTSD or may be people will watch it and recognise it in someone in the future," he added.
