LITTER pickers found seven used syringes and collected 49 bags of rubbish near a school when they tidied up in Horwich.

A group from the Horwich First Community Litter Pick went to Green Lane on Saturday to clear up and cleared away 49 bags of rubbish as well as move tyres and other debris.

The group found seven used syringes and called the council’s sharps disposal team to safely remove the needles, which were found behind Rivington and Blackrod Lower School.

The group posted a photo of the syringes to Facebook and called the find 'disappointing and worrying'.

Horwich First’s next litter pick will be on Sunday at Ox Hey Lane near the Beehive from 10am to noon as part of the Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean event which is going on nationwide

The same group had been litter picking in Old Station Park last month and found two knives including and eight-inch chef's knife.

The group handed the knives into the police.
