A NEW civic flagpole has been confirmed for Blackrod.

The flagpole will measure 8 metres high and will also feature a new wind proof flag — which remains horizontal at all times.

Two locations have been considered for the pole outside the Blackrod Town Council and library building in Church Street — one a foot in along the path, and a second between the telephone box and the building.

Blackrod town clerk confirmed that: "Measurements will be taken in two locations and a site visit will take place."

However, some concerns were raised about the new flag pole and dangers it might fall down.

North Ward Councillor John price said: "If there's a flag at that height could it not fall in to the building?"

The town clerk sought to reassure councillors that the flag would be safe.

She said: "We have been told that they do move slightly, but there's very few of them that fall.

"They are vandal proof with special ribs on them. But it can't go too near to the road because it's a visual impairment for drivers."
