A CARNIVAL will receive more than £2,000 in funding, after a request for financial assistance was approved by councillors.
But the decision by Horwich Town Council’s is subject to the Horwich Carnival committee submitting audited accounts and bank statements to the finance and general purposes panel.
Once received carnival organisers will be given £2,500.
Steven Chadwick proposed councillors said it was a “great community event” that was important to the people of Horwich.
Proposing councillors approve the request at a meeting this week, he added: “I think it’s something this council should be strongly supporting on the condition we receive the accounts.”
The Mayor of Horwich, Cllr Steve Rock, seconded the proposal.
He said: “These events are fading out Horwich has got so many things and we just need to keep it going,”
The decision was unanimous but Cllr Ken Denton expressed concerns that funding requests were becoming “endemic”in Horwich and some groups were failing to raise any of their own monies.
