MURDERER Paul Stones has been jailed for life for strangling his mother to death.
Paul Stones, aged 38, killed his mother in her bedroom at the home they shared in Park Terrace, Eagley.
He was this morning given a life sentence and must serve a minimum of 17 years before he is eligible for parole.
The murder took place between 10pm on Saturday, June 9 and 2.15pm on Sunday, June 10.
Ms Stones was found tucked up in her bed after Stones handed himself in to Scholey Street Police Station and told officers he has killed his mother.
A post mortem examination revealed she had injuries “consistent with compression of the neck”.
She also had an injury to her nose and left eyelid consistent with a blow.
The 58-year-old also had injuries on her arms from trying to defend herself and her hands were clenched.
Stones told the jury during the nine day trial that his memories from the night were "hazy".
It was claimed the anti-depressants he was taking had impacted his behaviour.
He had been drinking alcohol with his mother before he murdered her.
The father-of-one said he had spoken to his mother after he killed her and considered taking his own life.
He decided not to commit suicide because he has a five-year-old daughter, the court heard.
Stones has been in custody since he committed the crime.
