A FILM created by primary school children to encourage people to sign up for organ donation has won two national awards.

Youngsters at Blackrod Church School were told their two-minute film had won Best Film for a Junior Audience and the People’s Favourite Award at the of the Organ Donation Thro-ugh a Lens competition in their school assembly this morning.

Last night, year five class teacher Alexandra Ashley said the youngsters would be “chuffed to bits” when they were told the results.

She added: “I was delighted. It has been the talk of the school for the past couple of weeks and it is a fantastic result.”

Radio One DJ Edith Bowman announced the winners of the competition yesterday and said the films were an “inspiration”.

She added: “They show real heart and creativity while communicating a very powerful message of the importance of signing up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and passing on your wishes to your friends and family.”

The movie, called ‘Psst...Pass it on’, was created by the year four and five pupils, aged between nine and 11 and two medical photographers at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust Alison Ling and Helen Knight.

It also featured three Royal Bolton Hospital nurses, whose lives have been transformed by transplants, including mother-of-two Natalie Kerr, aged 30, from Adlington, who underwent a life-saving double-lung transplant operation four months ago.Children at the school painted pictures of organs and say on camera they bet people did not know they could donate skin, the small bowel, tendons, cornea, cartilage. They hold up pictures of each organ as it is read out.

Ms Ashley said the children would be most pleased for winning the People’s Favourite Award, based on YouTube views. The site received nearly 20,000 views with ‘Psst...Pass it on’ receiving 3,987 views overall.

Ms Ling and Ms Knight were presented with £500 worth of film making equi-pment as part of their award.
