YOUNG people will be taught about the dangers of just one punch in a campaign launched to reduce violent crime in Bolton.

Fifteen members of Bolton Lads and Girls Club National Citizen Service (NCS) programme will meet Dave Rogers, father of Adam Rogers, who was killed by a single punch in Blackburn three years ago.

A marquee will be set up in Victoria Square, Bolton, today and volunteers will be handing out leaflets to shoppers. Bars in Bolton town centre are displaying posters while bar staff will wear T-shirts and badges stating that violence will not be tolerated.

Police Sgt Paul Ellis said: “People don’t realise just how serious violent crime can be. The fist is very a powerful weapon and, unfortunately, as we’ve seen in the very tragic case of Adam Rogers, it only takes one punch to kill.”

Kayleigh Dewhurst, senior youth worker at BLGC, said it helped to raise awareness of how every action, especially when alcohols is involved, “can have a massive impact upon themselves and others”.
